Halloween! Love it or hate it, it creeps around the corner every October. Kids are in it for the tooth-rotting candy, youths are in it for the strobe-infested ragers, but films lovers like us, we’re just excited for the iconic horror movies. Luckily, Calgary has no shortage of fang-tastic film celebrations prepped and ready for this weekend.

HALLOWEEN KILLS

First up, the highly anticipated, newly released HALLOWEEN KILLS is screening at 10+ theatres around Calgary. Catch up with everyone’s favourite psycho killer as Michael Myers continues his life-long mission to terrorize Jamie Lee Curtis. In the most recent installment of the iconic HALLOWEEN film series, the Strode women and other survivors form a vigilante mob to take matters into their own hands and hunt down Michael to end his reign of terror once and for all.

Canadian Grain Elevator DRIVE-IN

Saturday, October 30 at 7 PM

Drive down to Nanton for a dastardly drive-in screening of THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS. Take in this seasonal classic with the added charm of a good old-fashioned drive-in! This event gets extra creepy bonus points for taking place in a former wheat field à la CHILDREN OF THE CORN. At only $40 a vehicle, this screening is the perfect opportunity to pile your family and friends into the car for the perfect Halloween road trip!

CUFF 12 HOUR HALLOWEEN MOVIE MARATHON

Saturday, October 30 at 7 PM until Sunday, October 31 at 7 AM

An annual CUFF tradition! This Halloween, the Calgary Underground Film Festival returns to Globe Cinema for their annual 12-Hour Horror Movie Marathon. 7 movies from 7 PM until 7 AM the next morning, including a costume contest, and other surprises throughout the night. THE SHINING AT GLOBE CINEMA

Friday, October 29 at 7 PM

Our friends over at Globe Cinema are hosting a screening of, arguably, one of the most legendary horror movies of all time, Stanley Kubrick’s THE SHINING. Based on the Stephen King novel, this thrilling story is brought to life by career-best performances from Shelley Duvall and Jack Nicholson.
