Thirteen-year-old Masha has grown up between the boxing ring and the streets of a provincial Russian town in the turbulent ’90s. Her closest friends are young gangsters who kill, rob and steal. They are loathed by the entire town, but in Masha's eyes, they are the salt of the earth, the family that loves and protects her. When she realizes who the men around her truly are, Masha leaves her hometown for Moscow in an attempt to start a new life, but can she leave the family once and for all, or will her past catch up with her?

The Generation Next programming team connected deeply with the challenging and harrowing
story that MASHA tells. It is a stylish and violent crime thriller that feels as important now as it
would have in the film's world of '90s Russia.
