Filmmakers Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache have had the story of THE SPECIALS in mind for years. The real subjects who are the basis for the film actually care for one of Toledano's relatives, a familiarity which lends THE SPECIALS its warmth. Vincent Cassel and Reda Kateb portray Bruno and Malik. Bruno's organization houses 40 teens and young adults whose symptoms are so extreme, other not-for-profits reject them. Malik's group trains young people from low-income neighbourhoods on how to become caretakers for the residents in Bruno's home. The heart of the film is the partnership the two have crafted in their devotion to serving others.
