Canadian master Atom Egoyan returns to CIFF with GUEST OF HONOUR - featuring a stirring performance from David Thewliss.

An unassuming food inspector has his world turned upside down when his educator daughter is accused of abusing her position of authority with a student. Told through multiple timelines, GUEST OF HONOUR follows the father and daughter as they work through their complicated relationship and deal with unresolved personal traumas.

Few filmmakers deal with the long-term emotional consequences of trauma in the way Egoyan does. The themes on display in GUEST have been a part of his work since early in his career. With GUEST OF HONOUR, he finds wonderfully willing actors in Thewliss and Laysla De Oliveira. Each deliver beautifully nuanced work anchoring an ambitious, mysterious and moving work of cinema.

CLOSING GALA screening of GUEST OF HONOUR is Saturday, September 28 at 7:30pm with the Closing Gala Block Party taking place at 9pm.
An encore screening will take place Sunday, September 29 at 11am.
Director Atom Egoyan is in attendance for the Sep. 28 screening; Q&A to follow.

Closing Gala screenings will be followed by a Block Party with favourites Paper St., Junction Stage + Bar, The Derrick, and State & Main. Block Party wristbands include two drink tickets.
