Cynthia Nixon and Christopher Abbott in JAMES WHITE copy WEB

James White

Year 2015
Runtime 85 mins

In this bittersweet and nuanced drama, an aimless, hard-living 20-something must give up his hedonistic lifestyle to care for his dying mother.

In an absolutely mesmerizing, star-making performance, Christopher Abbott (GIRLS), is James White - at turns selfish and selfless, heartless and heartbreaking.

This electrifying debut film from Josh Mond opens as the title character is coping with the recent death of his estranged father. Tightly wound with anger and surrounded by money, drugs and parties, James has no job and no plans, other than couch-surfing at his mother Gail's lavish apartment. A single mother, Gail (SEX AND THE CITY ‘s Cynthia Nixon, in a wonderfully poignant performance) has no problem indulging her grown son, until her cancer suddenly returns and she finds herself depending on him as her sole caretaker.

Supported by his best friend (played by rapper Kid Cudi), James must find the strength to overcome his sorrow and battle his demons, before his entire world crashes around him.

Winner of the Best of Next Audience Award at Sundance, JAMES WHITE finds humanity and strength in the darkest of hours.
