Director Alberto Sciamma in attendance at September 23 & 26 screenings.
Directed by Alberto Sciamma (THE KILLER TONGUE, JERICHO MANSIONS), and starring Bolivian prodigy Fernanda Gutierrez Aranda, CIELO is a visually arresting odyssey blending magical realism, emotional depth and cultural richness. Winner of three awards at the Fantasporto International Film Festival in 2025, the film captures the enduring human drive to seek light—even in the harshest landscapes.
In the windswept Bolivian Altiplano, eight-year-old Santa embarks on an extraordinary quest to honour a pact with her mother: when she dies, Santa will follow the stars and carry her body across the desert to a paradise they believe exists beyond the horizon. Along the way, she encounters a troupe of female wrestlers who become unexpected allies, and a gruff policeman who begins to suspect she possesses magical powers.
