CIFF believes that everyone should be able to go to the movies. We strive to show as many films in accessible venues as possible. That said, not all venues are equally accessible.

Accessibility questions can be addressed to our box office team or the management of each venue. Please refer to the following accessibility information before your screening.

The GRAND

The GRAND is a fully accessible venue, equipped with a wheelchair lift at the main entrance and a ramp accessible via an alternate entrance on 6th Avenue SW. Two accessible private washrooms are conveniently located on the main level, behind the main staircase. General washrooms can be found on the mezzanine level, located on the 2nd floor.

Globe Cinema

The Globe Cinema is a heritage building and presents challenges to accessibility. The cinema is divided into upstairs (Globe UP) and downstairs (Globe DOWN) auditoriums. 

The upstairs auditorium has no elevator or lift access. The upstairs bathrooms are not accessible. 

The downstairs auditorium has some room for a wheelchair. If you want to use the wheelchair space in the cinema you must contact our Box Office in advance so personnel can allow access to the ramp at the east side of the theatre. The theatre is limited to one wheelchair at a time. There is no designated companion seating.

The downstairs auditorium has no access to accessible washrooms.

CIFF strives to show movies screening at the Globe additional times at accessible venues. *Note: The October 1st screening of TENDER LOVING CARE will be Open Caption. Please check our listings. 

Parking at the auditorium is difficult. Loading zones are across the street from the front door as the direct front is blocked by a bicycle lane. Parkades surrounding the theatre may have accessible parking. 

Street parking is available outside the Globe Cinema and is free after 6 p.m. every day, and all day on Sundays. The city provides various parking lots throughout the downtown core, with evening rates beginning at 4 p.m. Free parking  is available after 4 p.m on weekdays and all day on weekends at the Harmony Parkade (112 5 Ave SW). 

The Plaza Theatre

The Plaza Theatre has good accessibility. The front door is at ground level and the east side washroom is accessible, gender-neutral, and has a baby change station. The front door has an automatic opener. 

The auditorium has a gentle ramp and ample space for wheelchairs. Companion seating is not designated but there is ample seating directly in front of the wheelchair spaces. SIDEBAR is not strictly accessible to wheelchairs and has a step up to the bar space. The SIDEBAR patio is accessible but may require the moving of some tables and chairs. 

The loading zone is busy and parking in the area is moderately far from the venue. Please refer to City of Calgary resources for accessible parking information.

Street parking throughout Kensington and parkades in the neighbourhood. 

Cineplex Chinook

Cineplex Chinook is wheelchair accessible. There is an elevator to the auditoriums on the east side of the venue. Please note the escalators and elevator are prone to being out of service and CIFF cannot guarantee the functionality of either service. Please contact our Box Office if you want to inquire about the status of those services.

The venue has wheelchair-accessible washrooms, but no gender-neutral washrooms; please use whichever is most comfortable. 

Auditoriums contain Assisted Listening Devices and will be available at a limited supply for certain screenings. Please contact our Box Office if you require the use of these devices. Accessible screenings are listed below:

The west side surface parking has ample accessible parking and ramps for entry. CIFF strongly recommends patrons with mobility issues use west side parking. Chinook Centre bars entry at 9PM. If you park in the south parkade or elsewhere during your screening you will not be able to traverse the mall to your vehicle after 9PM. West surface parking has doors and ramps open until the close of the cinema. 

Contemporary Calgary

Contemporary Calgary is fully accessible venue, complete with ramps and elevators. Please see a volunteer when you arrive and they can assist you during your visit.

Washrooms are set up with accessibility in mind. Gender neutral bathrooms located through out the building. 

Contemporary Calgary has ample parking in a Park Plus parking lot on site. With evening and weekend flat rates, it is wonderfully convenient for visitors. Payment can be made either at a kiosk or the ParkPlus app. 

There is a short walk from the north side parking lot to the main Contemporary Calgary doors. If closer loading zone usage is required please contact our Box Office. 

I.A.T.S.E. Local 212 Training Facility

Accessible building with elevator, accessible washrooms, and adjacent parking. 

Wheelchair-accessible surface parking lot for visitors.
