MAN IN MOTION: THE RICK HANSEN STORY chronicles Rick's extraordinary 26-month odyssey as the first person to circumnavigate the Earth in a wheelchair, in pursuit of a more accessible world and a new definition of ability. Produced by Ryan Reynolds and Derik Murray and directed by Adrian Buitenhuis, the film features original interviews, rare archival footage, and personal audio recordings chronicling this true hero's journey, through which Rick faced seemingly impossible challenges, fell in love, and rediscovered what it means to be a whole person.

Inspired by his friend Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope (the subject of fellow CIFF Special Presentation RUN TERRY RUN) Hansen embarked in 1985 on the 26-month Man in Motion World Tour. He travelled 40,075 kilometres through 34 countries in his wheelchair, raising $26 million to remove accessibility barriers and forever changing perceptions of what people with disabilities can achieve. The journey even inspired David Foster and John Parr’s iconic hit “St. Elmo’s Fire (Man in Motion).”
