Jake Bellman (Cole Phillips, in his debut feature role) was born blind. Kids at school call him “The Freak.” He has no friends, no money and no life. His single mother is overworked and absent, while his older brother hates his guts. Jake spends his nights alone in his run-down apartment, calling strangers in search of a friendly voice.

One day, one of these strangers gives Jake the number for a party line, and he becomes engrossed in this new world of voices, populated by loners, nerds, and a community of phone hackers known as “phreakers.” One of them, Ray Morse (Enrico Colantoni, VERONICA MARS), mentors Jake in the lost subculture of phreaking—the study and manipulation of the telephone system. Armed with this knowledge, his heightened hearing and an ability to mimic voices, Jake begins hacking his way through phone networks. He listens in on calls and steals credit card information, which he uses to get food, gadgets, and phone sex.

Adam Yorke (writer of SEE FOR ME, CIFF 2021) makes his feature directorial debut with PHREAKER, a semi-historical thriller that keeps the energy at full tilt from start to finish.
