Jake Bellman (Cole Phillips in his debut feature role) was born blind. Kids at school call him “The Freak.” He has no friends, no money, and no life. His single mother is overworked and absent, and his older brother hates his guts. Jake spends his nights alone in his run-down apartment, calling strangers, searching for a friendly voice.

One day, one of these strangers gives Jake the number to a party line, and he becomes engrossed in this new world of voices: full of loners, nerds, and a community of phone hackers called “phreakers.” One of whom, Ray Morse (Enrico Colantoni, VERONICA MARS), mentors Jake in the lost subculture of phreaking — the study and manipulation of the phone system. With this knowledge, paired with his heightened hearing and ability to mimic voices, Jake begins hacking his way through the phone companies. He listens in on calls to steal credit cards that he uses to get food, gadgets, and phone sex. Intoxicated with his new powers, Jake challenges a gang of criminal phreakers and begins “swatting” his enemies, faking 911 calls to get them raided by police. Jake is now a respected and feared phreaker. But while he may be the new king of the party lines, he’s now in the crosshairs of the phone company’s chief fraud investigator, Dave Spokes (Robb Wells, TRAILER PARK BOYS), and FBI Agent Susan Moss (Natasha Mumba, THE HANDMAID's TALE).

Adam Yorke's (writer of SEE FOR ME, CIFF 2021) directorial debut feature film PHREAKER is a semi-historical thriller that keeps the energy rolling at full tilt through the entire runtime.
