Kelly Reichardt (FIRST COW, SHOWING UP) writes and directs THE MASTERMIND, an unassuming, fresh and calculated takedown of male genius disguised as an art-heist movie. The film premiered in competition at the Cannes Film Festival in 2025.
Starring Josh O'Connor (LA CHIMERA, CIFF 2023), fresh off an incredible turn as one-third of the sexiest love triangle of 2024 in Luca Guadagnino's CHALLENGERS, as the titular mastermind, the film also features an outstanding supporting cast, including Alana Haim (LICORICE PIZZA), Hope Davis (AMERICAN SPLENDOR), and one of Reichardt’s frequent collaborators, John Magaro (SHOWING UP, PAST LIVES).
In a sedate corner of Massachusetts circa 1970, an unemployed carpenter-turned-amateur art thief plans his first big heist. When things go haywire, his life begins to unravel.
