Jafar Panahi (TAXI, CIFF 2015; 3 FACES, CIFF 2018; NO BEARS, CIFF Global Perspectives 2022) has, himself, been imprisoned and censored and in the Palme d'Or winning IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT, he asks: should a victim of the state's violent crimes seek revenge or offer mercy?
While driving home with his wife and daughter, Eghbal hits and kills a dog and destroys his engine. He wanders into a nearby warehouse seeking assistance where he meets Vahid...or have they encountered one another before? Vahid's life has been in shambles since he was tortured in prison by a man he calls Pegleg and he's convinced that Eghbal is that man.
