DO US PART is an emotionally layered dramedy that unfolds over a single day inside the home of a Canadian family of eco-architects. Part chamber piece, part ensemble comedy, DO US PART explores the quiet courage it takes to break from what no longer fits. The film is the debut feature from Downstage Calgary’s artistic director, Clare Preuss.
At the centre is Simone (Michelle Thrush), a restless matriarch worn thin by emotional labor, buried grief, and a family firm that no longer functions. Her adult children — anxious Daniel, conflicted Geoff, and independent Sam — each feel stuck in lives that were supposed to mean more. Her husband, Martin (Andy Curtis), clings to the past while their once-idealistic firm teeters on the edge of irrelevance. As the family gathers for Sam’s 25th birthday dinner, tensions erupt and the architecture of their carefully constructed life begins to collapse.
