Yesterday we revealed the 12 winners of our Audience Choice Awards- those films that gained the best score in each category as decided by the public ballots cast at the end of each screening. Today, it's time to reveal the winner of our Fan Favourite Award; a special award that is chosen by CIFF's biggest fans. Almost 300 movie fans that watched 10 or more films over the course of the festival received a special ballot to determine the winner, and this year's pick comes as no surprise.

Calgary International Film Festival 2019 Fan Favourite Award Winner:
PARASITE, directed by Bong Joon Ho

If two sold-out screenings nearly a month in advance and dozens of people lined up outside in a snowstorm for the slight chance at snagging a rush ticket to our final screening of this film didn't give it away, PARASITE was by far the fan favourite of this year's festival.

Calgarians are not the only ones getting excited about PARASITE, this film is getting some serious Oscar buzz already. It won the Palme D'Or at Cannes in May, the People's Choice Award at TIFF and was announced as the South Korean entry for Best International Feature Film for the upcoming 92nd Academy Awards. So expect to hear a lot more about this film in the coming months as awards season heats up!

The second place finisher was HONEYLAND and in third place was PORTRAIT OF A LADY ON FIRE.
