From CMPA expands Indiescreen Awards nationally

TORONTO, July 22, 2019
—The Canadian Media Producers Association today called for applications for its annual Indiescreen Awards, which recognize the best and brightest among Canada’s feature film producers. The CMPA also announced it is expanding eligibility for the awards. In addition to the Toronto International Film Festival, which has been a strong supporter of the awards for many years, applications are also welcome from producers with films screening at the Calgary International Film Festival, FIN: Atlantic International Film Festival, and the Vancouver International Film Festival.

“The Indiescreen Awards are an opportunity to bring attention to the incredible work being done by Canada’s independent feature film producers, who bring distinct Canadian stories to life on screen,” said CMPA President and CEO Reynolds Mastin. “We are excited to expand the awards to include festivals from across the country, and to open eligibility to a greater number of producers and perspectives.”

Established in 2006, the CMPA Indiescreen Awards recognize producers whose vision and entrepreneurship demonstrate a commitment and passion for producing Canadian feature films. Nominees in the Established Producer category are selected based upon their body of work developed over the course of their careers. Nominees for the Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer Award are chosen for demonstrating impressive potential early in their careers.

The winner of the Established Producer Award will receive $10,000 and the winner of the Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer Award will receive $5,000. The Awards will be handed out at a ceremony at TIFF in Toronto on September 5, 2019.
